A Millicent businessman credited with resurrecting the ex-TimberTech engineering firm and the former O?Connor?s Airline has now turned his focus to boosting the region?s construction industry.
Adrian de Bruin has outlined his vision for a one-stop shop for building needs, after forming an alliance with two successful local businesses.
He has owned the historic ?Mayura Station?, at Millicent, since the 1970s.
His company, de Bruin Construction, today became the new owner of the prominent Mount Gambier electrical firm Derick Friswell Electrical Pty Ltd operated by Derick Friswell.
Mr de Bruin believes that the formation of strong alliances are the way forward for an industry which has been struggling nationally with the lowest building activity levels in a decade.
There has also been considerable pain at a local level, highlighted by the recent news of a cabinetmaker going into administration, and the closure of a large hardware store.
?During tough times like these, innovation, service, solid custom, reputation and corporate strength become the key to job survival, so we?re confident that we?re on the right track, and look forward to a positive future,? says Mr de Bruin.
The electrical component of the business will continue to be supervised by Mr Friswell, trading as Friswell Electrical SA.
?Even though the name will change, the staff and their high quality service will remain the same,? explains de Bruin Group general manager Rob Opie.
?They will continue to work with their long-term commercial and private customers, and also look forward to welcoming new customers.?
The capital backing and corporate structure of the de Bruin Group will enable Friswell Electrical SA to quote and tender for larger projects than it has in the past, boosting local employment prospects within the electrical industry.
The company will be based at the headquarters of de Bruin Construction, located at 237-241 Commercial St West, Mount Gambier.
A section of the premises has also been leased to Tye?s Plumbing Service, a family-owned and operated business boasting more than 15 years? experience within the industry.
?We have essentially created a builder?s hub in the heart of Mount Gambier ? this will be a one-stop-shop for any project whether it?s electrical, plumbing, solar power installations, construction or carpentry; one phone call and it?s done,? says Mr Opie, adding that the facility also complements other business arms within the de Bruin Group?s portfolio, including engineering, aviation and civil works.
